1. What are cookies and why do we use them
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device — computer, tablet, or mobile phone — when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognise your device and store certain information about your preferences or past actions, so that your experience can be tailored and improved on future visits.
As well as traditional cookies, we and our partners may use similar technologies including pixels, web beacons, tags, and scripts, which work in comparable ways. Throughout this policy, we refer to all of these collectively as "cookies".
We use cookies on the Little India Treasures website at www.shoplittleindia.co.uk (the "Site") for a number of purposes: to keep the Site functioning properly, to understand how visitors use it, to remember your preferences, and — with your consent — to deliver relevant marketing and advertising to you.
Cookies are governed in the United Kingdom by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, together with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Where cookies collect personal data, our Privacy Policy also applies.
This Cookie Policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, our Terms of Use, and our Legal Notice.
2. How we use cookies on this Site
The Site uses four categories of cookies. These are explained in full in Sections 3 to 6 below. In summary:
| Category | Purpose | Consent required? |
| Strictly necessary | Essential for the Site to function — shopping basket, checkout, login, security | No — always active |
| Functional | Remember your preferences and personalise your experience | Yes |
| Analytics | Understand how visitors use the Site and help us improve it | Yes |
| Advertising and targeting | Deliver relevant advertising to you on this Site and across other platforms | Yes |
When you first visit the Site, you will be presented with a cookie banner inviting you to accept, decline, or manage your preferences for each non-essential category. Strictly necessary cookies are always active and cannot be switched off. All other cookies are switched off by default until you give your consent.
You can update your cookie preferences at any time by clicking "Manage Cookies" in the footer of the Site. Withdrawing consent does not affect any cookies that were already placed before you withdrew it. Your consent preferences are stored as a cookie on your device so that we can remember your choices on future visits.
Cookies may be set by us as first-party cookies, or by third parties whose services we have integrated into the Site. Where third-party cookies are used, those third parties also process your data in accordance with their own privacy policies, which are linked in the relevant sections below.
3. Category 1 — Strictly necessary cookies
Strictly necessary cookies are essential for the Site to operate. Without them, you would not be able to add products to your basket, proceed to checkout, log in to your account, or use other core features of the Site. Under PECR, these cookies are exempt from the consent requirement because they are strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested.
These cookies do not collect personal data for marketing purposes and cannot be disabled through our cookie preference tool. You can block them through your browser settings, but doing so will prevent you from using essential features of the Site, including purchasing.
The strictly necessary cookies we use include:
| Cookie name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
| _shopify_session | Shopify | Maintains your session while you browse the Site, including the contents of your basket | Session |
| _shopify_country | Shopify | Stores your country selection to ensure the correct currency and content is displayed | Session |
| cart | Shopify | Stores the contents of your shopping basket | 2 weeks |
| secure_customer_sig | Shopify | Securely remembers your login status across pages | 20 years |
| cookieyes-consent | First party | Stores your cookie consent preferences so we do not need to ask again on each visit | 1 year |
| _shopify_sa_t | Shopify | Used for marketing attribution and shopping analytics by Shopify | 30 minutes |
| _shopify_sa_p | Shopify | Used for marketing analytics by Shopify to track page views and visits | 30 minutes |
The Site is hosted on Shopify. Shopify operates as our data processor and places certain cookies on our behalf. For details of Shopify's cookie practices, please visit www.shopify.com/legal/cookies.
4. Category 2 — Functional cookies
Functional cookies allow the Site to remember choices you have made and provide enhanced, more personalised features. For example, they may remember your language preference, your currency selection, or whether you have previously dismissed a newsletter sign-up prompt.
These cookies do not track your behaviour across other websites. If you do not accept functional cookies, some features of the Site may not work as expected, but you will still be able to browse and purchase.
Functional cookies we use include:
| Cookie name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
| _shopify_currency | Shopify | Remembers your selected currency so it persists across your visit | Session |
| _shopify_m | Shopify | Used for managing checkout and cart state | 1 year |
| _landing_page | Shopify | Tracks the landing page you arrived on to help improve your experience | Session |
| klaviyo | Klaviyo | Used by our email marketing platform to identify returning visitors and personalise email content. Klaviyo's privacy policy: www.klaviyo.com/legal/privacy | Up to 2 years |
Functional cookies are only set after you have given your consent through the cookie banner or "Manage Cookies" in the footer.
5. Category 3 — Analytics cookies
Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with the Site — which pages are visited most, how long people spend on each page, where they come from, and where they leave. This information helps us improve the Site, fix errors, and make the shopping experience better for everyone.
Analytics cookies collect information in an anonymised or aggregated form where possible. They do not directly identify you as an individual. However, because analytics tools may use IP addresses and other identifiers that can constitute personal data under the UK GDPR, your consent is required before we place them.
Analytics cookies we use include:
| Cookie name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique users by assigning a randomly generated number. Used to calculate visitor, session, and campaign data. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy | 2 years |
| _ga_[ID] | Google Analytics (GA4) | Stores and counts page views | 2 years |
| _gid | Google Analytics | Stores information about how visitors use the Site; used to create statistical reports | 24 hours |
| _gat | Google Analytics | Used to limit the request rate when using Google Tag Manager | 1 minute |
You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites by downloading the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Analytics cookies are only set after you have given your consent through the cookie banner or "Manage Cookies" in the footer.
6. Category 4 — Advertising and targeting cookies
Advertising and targeting cookies allow us and our advertising partners to show you more relevant advertisements — both on the Site and on other websites and platforms you visit after leaving the Site. They work by building a profile of your browsing behaviour and interests based on the pages and products you have viewed.
These cookies also help us measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns — for example, to understand whether someone who clicked on one of our Instagram or Pinterest advertisements went on to make a purchase.
Advertising cookies are set by third-party platforms, including social media networks. Those third parties may use the data they collect for their own purposes, including to serve you targeted advertising on their own platforms. We do not control how those third parties use the data they collect. We encourage you to review their privacy policies, which are linked below.
Advertising and targeting cookies we use include:
| Cookie name / tool | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
| _fbp | Meta (Facebook / Instagram) | Used by Facebook to deliver, measure, and improve the relevance of advertisements. Meta's data policy: www.facebook.com/privacy/policy | 3 months |
| _fbc | Meta (Facebook / Instagram) | Stores the last click attribution data for Facebook adverts | 3 months |
| Pinterest tag / _pin_unauth | Used to track conversions, build audiences, and measure the performance of Pinterest advertising campaigns. Pinterest's privacy policy: policy.pinterest.com/en-gb/privacy-policy | Up to 1 year | |
| Google Ads / _gcl_au | Used by Google Ads to measure advertising effectiveness and enable conversion tracking. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy | 3 months | |
| TikTok Pixel / _ttp | TikTok | Used to track conversions and measure the performance of TikTok advertising campaigns. TikTok's privacy policy: www.tiktok.com/legal/privacy-policy-eea | 13 months |
You can opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies by visiting the following opt-out tools:
- Your Online Choices (EU/UK): www.youronlinechoices.com
- Google Ads Settings: adssettings.google.com
- Digital Advertising Alliance (US): optout.aboutads.info
Advertising and targeting cookies are only set after you have given your consent through the cookie banner or "Manage Cookies" in the footer.
7. Managing your cookie preferences
You are in control of your cookie preferences. There are several ways to manage or withdraw your consent:
Through our cookie preference tool
When you first visit the Site, you will see a cookie banner where you can accept all cookies, accept only strictly necessary cookies, or manage your preferences by category. You can update your choices at any time by clicking "Manage Cookies" in the footer of every page of the Site.
Through your browser settings
Most modern browsers allow you to view, block, and delete cookies through their settings. Please note that blocking all cookies — including strictly necessary ones — may prevent you from using some or all features of the Site, including completing a purchase. Instructions for the most common browsers are available here:
- Google Chrome: support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
- Safari: support.apple.com
- Mozilla Firefox: support.mozilla.org
- Microsoft Edge: support.microsoft.com
Through third-party opt-out tools
You can opt out of interest-based advertising cookies set by participating advertising networks by using the opt-out tools listed in Section 6 above.
Important note on withdrawing consent
Withdrawing your consent for non-essential cookies does not affect the lawfulness of any processing that took place before you withdrew it. It also does not affect any strictly necessary cookies, which will remain active.
8. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use, changes in the law, or changes in our business. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last reviewed" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you via the cookie banner on your next visit.
We encourage you to review this Cookie Policy periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies. If the changes require fresh consent, we will ask for it before placing any new non-essential cookies.
