1. What are cookies and why do we use them
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device, whether a computer, tablet, or mobile phone, when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognise your device and store certain information about your preferences or past actions, so that your experience can be tailored and improved on future visits.
As well as traditional cookies, we and our partners may use similar technologies including pixels, web beacons, tags, and scripts, which work in comparable ways. Throughout this policy, we refer to all of these collectively as "cookies".
We use cookies on the Little India Treasures website at www.shoplittleindia.co.uk (the "Site") for a number of purposes: to keep the Site functioning properly, to understand how visitors use it, to remember your preferences, and, with your consent, to deliver relevant marketing and advertising to you.
Cookies are governed in the United Kingdom by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, together with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Equivalent consent requirements apply under the ePrivacy rules of the European Union and the laws of other jurisdictions from which we accept visitors. Where cookies collect personal data, our Privacy Policy also applies.
This Cookie Policy forms part of a wider set of legal and policy documents that together govern your use of the Site. The full list is set out at the end of this policy, and every document is accessible from the footer of every page.
2. How we use cookies on this Site
The Site uses four categories of cookies. These are explained in full in Sections 3 to 6 below. In summary:
| Category | Purpose | Consent required? |
| Required | Essential for the Site to function: shopping basket, checkout, login, security | No, always active |
| Personalization | Enhanced features, such as live chat, that adapt to how you use the Site | Yes |
| Marketing | Deliver relevant advertising to you on this Site and across other platforms | Yes |
| Analytics | Understand how visitors use the Site and help us improve it | Yes |
When you first visit the Site, you will be presented with a cookie banner inviting you to accept, decline, or manage your preferences for each non-essential category. Required cookies are always active and cannot be switched off. All other cookies are switched off by default until you give your consent.
You can update your cookie preferences at any time by clicking "Manage preferences" on the Site. Withdrawing consent does not affect any cookies that were already placed before you withdrew it.
Cookies may be set by us as first-party cookies, or by third parties whose services we have integrated into the Site. Where third-party cookies are used, those third parties also process your data in accordance with their own privacy policies, which are linked in the relevant sections below.
Our wholesale and trade ordering portal is provided by SparkLayer, a third-party platform we use to run our Trade Program. SparkLayer's platform sets its own cookies across the Site, including cookies used for its own analytics, marketing measurement, and customer messaging tools, some of which are separate from the equivalent tools we use directly. Where a cookie in the tables below is set by SparkLayer, this is noted, and we are working with SparkLayer to confirm the full extent of how this data is used and will update this policy if that changes.
The duration figures given in the tables below were captured from live testing of the Site and rounded to the nearest standard period. Because third-party providers can adjust their own cookie lifespans without notice, we review this table periodically to keep it accurate.
3. Category 1 — Required cookies
Required cookies are essential for the Site to operate. Without them, you would not be able to add products to your basket, proceed to checkout, log in to your account, or use other core features of the Site. Under PECR, these cookies are exempt from the consent requirement because they are strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested.
These cookies do not collect personal data for marketing purposes and cannot be disabled through our cookie preference tool. You can block them through your browser settings, but doing so will prevent you from using essential features of the Site, including purchasing.
The Required cookies we use include:
| Cookie name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
| _shopify_essential / _merchant_essential | Shopify | Core platform functions including checkout, security, and fraud prevention | Up to 1 year |
| _shopify_s | Shopify | Maintains your session while you browse the Site | Session |
| cart | Shopify | Stores the contents of your shopping basket | Up to 3 months |
| cart_currency | Shopify | Remembers your selected currency for your basket | Up to 2 weeks |
| localization | Shopify | Stores your country selection to ensure the correct currency and content is displayed | Up to 1 year |
| secure_customer_sig | Shopify | Securely remembers your login status across pages, present only if you are signed in to a customer account | Up to 20 years |
| A consent-recording mechanism | Shopify | Remembers the cookie choices you make so that we do not need to ask again on each visit. This is built into Shopify's own privacy system rather than a single fixed cookie name, so we describe its function here rather than a name that may change | Varies |
The Site is hosted on Shopify. Shopify operates as our data processor and places certain cookies on our behalf. For details of Shopify's cookie practices, please visit www.shopify.com/legal/cookies.
4. Category 2 — Personalization cookies
Personalization cookies support enhanced features that adapt to how you use the Site but are not essential to its core operation. If you do not accept these cookies, some features may not be available to you, but you will still be able to browse and purchase.
The Personalization cookies we use include:
| Cookie name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
| intercom-id, intercom-device-id, intercom-session, messagesUtk | Intercom, via SparkLayer | Powers the live chat and messaging feature within our trade and wholesale ordering portal. Intercom's privacy policy: www.intercom.com/legal/privacy | Session to 1 year |
Personalization cookies are only set after you have given your consent through the cookie banner or "Manage preferences".
5. Category 3 — Marketing cookies
Marketing cookies allow us and our advertising partners to show you more relevant advertisements, both on the Site and on other websites and platforms you visit after leaving the Site. They work by building a profile of your browsing behaviour and interests based on the pages and products you have viewed, and they also help us measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns.
Marketing cookies are set by third-party platforms, including social media networks. Those third parties may use the data they collect for their own purposes, including to serve you targeted advertising on their own platforms. We do not control how those third parties use the data they collect. We encourage you to review their privacy policies, which are linked below.
The Marketing cookies we use include:
| Cookie name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
| _shopify_marketing / _merchant_marketing | Shopify | Supports marketing attribution features within Shopify's own platform | Up to 1 year |

| _gcl_au, FPAU | Used by Google Ads to measure advertising effectiveness and enable conversion tracking, including a first-party version of the same identifier. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy | Up to 3 months | |
| hubspotutk | HubSpot, via SparkLayer | Used within our trade and wholesale ordering portal for marketing and CRM purposes. HubSpot's privacy policy: legal.hubspot.com/privacy-policy | Up to 1 year |
| _uetsid, _uetvid | Microsoft Advertising, via SparkLayer | Used within our trade and wholesale ordering portal to measure advertising effectiveness on Microsoft and Bing platforms. Microsoft's privacy policy: privacy.microsoft.com/en-gb/privacystatement | Up to 1 year |

6. Category 4 — Analytics cookies
Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with the Site, including which pages are visited most, how long people spend on each page, where they come from, and where they leave. This information helps us improve the Site, fix errors, and make the shopping experience better for everyone.
Analytics cookies collect information in an anonymised or aggregated form where possible. They do not directly identify you as an individual. However, because analytics tools may use IP addresses and other identifiers that can constitute personal data under the UK GDPR, your consent is required before we place them.
The Analytics cookies we use include:
| Cookie name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
| _shopify_analytics / _merchant_analytics | Shopify | Shopify's own first-party analytics, used to estimate unique visitors and understand site performance | Up to 1 year |
| _shopify_y | Shopify | Identifies a unique visitor across sessions for Shopify's own analytics | Up to 1 year |
| _ga, _ga_[property ID], FPID | Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique users and stores information about how visitors use the Site, including a first-party version of the same identifier. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy | Up to 2 years |
| mp_[property ID] | Mixpanel, via SparkLayer | Used within our trade and wholesale ordering portal to understand how it is used. Mixpanel's privacy policy: mixpanel.com/legal/privacy-policy | Up to 1 year |
| _clck | Microsoft Clarity, via SparkLayer | Used within our trade and wholesale ordering portal to understand how it is used, including session behaviour. Microsoft's privacy policy: privacy.microsoft.com/en-gb/privacystatement | Up to 1 year |

Important note on withdrawing consent
Withdrawing your consent for non-essential cookies does not affect the lawfulness of any processing that took place before you withdrew it. It also does not affect any Required cookies, which will remain active.
8. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use, changes in the law, or changes in our business. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last reviewed" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you via the cookie banner on your next visit.
We encourage you to review this Cookie Policy periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies. If the changes require fresh consent, we will ask for it before placing any new non-essential cookies.
