A block-printed pouch in cream on a deep red ground. Lined in burgundy cotton satin, finished with a gold zip and our metal tiger.
Roomy enough for your daily essentials, slim enough to slip into any bag. At home in a handbag, carry it inside a tote or a carry-on or use it as a clutch on its own. A pouch that feels like something you found rather than something you bought.

The Treasure Hunt

The conch shell has been sacred in India for thousands of years. It appears in temple carvings, in jewellery, in the hands of gods. It also appears, rendered as a fan-shaped flower, on the block-printed textiles of Bagru.
The shankh phool is a motif that sits somewhere between the natural and the geometric. The form is organic, a shell, a flower, petals fanning outward from a central point in the way a conch opens at its mouth. But the repeat is precise, each motif sitting in a tight grid across the cloth, the forms interlocking so closely that the cream and the red share almost equal space on the surface. It is a pattern that rewards looking. From a distance it reads as texture. Up close it resolves into something much more considered.
The deep red ground is one of the richest colours in the Bagru palette, achieved by building up colour in layers until the cotton holds a warmth that lighter grounds cannot reach. The cream of the shankh phool is the cotton itself, left untouched where the resist was applied before the ground colour was laid.
The cotton is cut and stitched into a flat pouch, the shell forms interlocking across every face. A gold zip runs along the top, finished with a self-fabric knotted tassel and our small metal tiger.
The pouch that carries a little piece of temple craft in your bag.

A note on natural variation

Every Red Shankh Phool pouch is printed and stitched by hand, so no two are quite the same. The deep red ground is one of the more characterful colours in the range and may carry a slightly warmer or cooler tone from piece to piece. You may notice a shankh phool that caught the resist a little more heavily on one side, or a motif that sits a fraction closer to its neighbour in one area of the cloth. The restraint of this pattern means every small variation is visible, and every one of them tells you something about the hand that made it.
