A block-printed makeup bag in bold red and pink cheques, with a gathered frill all around. Lined in red and pink striped cotton, finished with a gold zip and our metal tiger.
Roomy enough for travel or your daily routine, compact enough for hand luggage. A bag that feels like something you found rather than something you bought.

The Treasure Hunt

Every culture has its candy colours. In India they arrive wrapped in cellophane and stacked in glass jars in the corner shops of every bazaar, reds and pinks so saturated they seem to glow from the inside. This bag started there.
The chequerboard is one of the oldest repeat patterns in textile printing, two colours, two blocks, alternating in a perfect grid across the cloth. Simple to describe, precise to execute. A cheque pattern has no motif to carry the eye, no trailing vine or scattered flower to soften an imprecise repeat. Every square must be the same size. Every block must land exactly where the last one left off. The printers of Sanganer have been doing this for generations, and the confidence in this cloth shows.
The red and the pink sit close enough in tone to feel like a single statement from a distance. Up close they resolve into two distinct colours, the cheque sharp and deliberate. The same fabric is gathered into a full frill that runs all the way around the bag, the squares breaking into a tumble of movement as the cloth is pleated.
A gold zip runs across the top, finished with a self-fabric tassel pull and our small metal tiger.
The frilly bag for someone who likes their colour undiluted.

A note on natural variation

Every Candy Cheques bag is printed and stitched by hand, so no two are quite the same. The chequerboard pattern requires two blocks to register precisely against each other, and you may notice a square that sits a fraction wider or a colour that bleeds very slightly at an edge. The red and pink may carry a slightly different intensity from piece to piece depending on the dye bath. The frill is gathered by hand, so its fullness will vary slightly around the bag. This is what block print looks like when it is honest about what it is.

Our Promise

Every piece in our collection is sourced directly from artisan workshops we know by name. We pay fairly, we visit often, and we believe the people who make a thing should be valued as much as the thing itself. We use natural dyes wherever possible, plastic-free packaging in every order, and we donate a share of every sale back into the craft communities we work with.
