A block-printed pouch in yellow and orange on a white ground, with a gathered frill all around. Lined in orange cotton satin, finished with a gold zip and our metal tiger.
Small enough to live in any bag. Cards, coins, jewellery, a lip balm, the small things that disappear without something to put them in. A pouch that feels like something you found rather than something you bought.

The Treasure Hunt

Bagru has always been a place where old hands make new things. The technique stays the same, teakwood blocks, cotton stretched and dried in the sun, but the designs keep moving. The Mustard Buti is one of these newer patterns, made by a printer who grew up cutting traditional blocks and then decided to put two ideas together that had not been put together before.
The buti sits inside an ogee lattice, a small leaf motif nestled within a repeating framework of curved diamond shapes. The lattice is the older idea, a geometric structure that appears across Rajasthani textiles in dozens of forms. The buti inside it is the newer one, a small stylised leaf drawn with the clean confidence of someone who knows exactly what they want. Together they make a pattern that reads as contemporary but feels grounded, the kind of thing that could only come from a workshop with centuries of practice behind it.
The yellow of the lattice and the orange of the buti are printed in sequence over the white ground, each pass of the block adding a layer. The white is the cotton itself, left untouched between the printed forms.
The same fabric is gathered into a frill that runs all the way around the pouch, the lattice and buti breaking into movement as the cloth is pleated. A gold zip runs along the top, finished with a self-fabric knotted tassel and our small metal tiger.
The pouch for someone who likes their tradition with a little invention in it.

A note on natural variation

Every Mustard Buti pouch is printed and stitched by hand, so no two are quite the same. The geometric lattice means any variation in the printing is immediately visible. You may notice a diamond that sits a fraction wider than its neighbour, or a buti where the orange caught the dye a little more deeply on one side. The white ground may carry a very faint warmth from piece to piece. The frill is gathered by hand, so its fullness will shift slightly around the pouch. This is a contemporary design made the traditional way, and the hand behind it shows in every repeat.

Our Promise

Every piece in our collection is sourced directly from artisan workshops we know by name. We pay fairly, we visit often, and we believe the people who make a thing should be valued as much as the thing itself. We use natural dyes wherever possible, plastic-free packaging in every order, and we donate a share of every sale back into the craft communities we work with.
