Chital Spot Frill Makeup Bag

The chital is the most beautiful deer in India. Tawny coat, white spots scattered across the back in no particular order, each animal marked differently from the next. They move through the forests of Rajasthan in small groups, unhurried, and if you are quiet enough you will see them.
The spot pattern on this cloth is the chital rendered in block print. White rounds on a deep mustard ground, scattered across the fabric with the same apparent randomness as the markings on the deer itself. In reality, every spot is placed by hand, the block pressed in a loose repeat that mimics nature's own irregularity. It is one of the more technically interesting patterns in the catalogue, a print that is designed to look undesigned.
The mustard ground is one of Bagru's most characteristic colours, warm and deep in the way that only this part of Rajasthan produces. The white of the spots is the cotton beneath, revealed where the resist was applied before the ground colour was laid.
The same fabric is gathered into a full frill that runs all the way around the bag, the spots tumbling into the pleats as the cloth is gathered. A gold zip runs across the top, finished with a self-fabric tassel pull and our small metal tiger.

Every Chital Spot bag is printed and stitched by hand, so no two are quite the same. The spot pattern is intentionally irregular, which means the variation between pieces is part of the design rather than despite it. You may notice spots sitting closer together in one area and further apart in another, or a spot that caught the resist a little more heavily on one side. The mustard ground may carry a slightly different depth of colour from piece to piece. No two bags will be spotted in quite the same way, which is rather the point.

Returns

You have 14 days from receiving your order to return it. Items must be unused, in their original condition and packaging.

For change-of-mind returns, we email you a Royal Mail returns link — no printer needed, no postage to pay upfront. The cost of return postage is deducted from your refund.

For faulty, damaged or incorrect items, we cover return postage in full and refund your original delivery charge. Sale items are final.
