Jasmine Jaal Makeup Bag

Sale price£32.00

Hand block-printed in Rajasthan

A hand-quilted makeup bag, block-printed by hand in blush and sage on a warm peach ground. Lined in tan cotton satin, finished with a gold zip and our metal tiger.
Roomy enough for travel or your daily routine, compact enough for hand luggage. A bag that feels like something you found rather than something you bought.

The Treasure Hunt

In Sanganer, the jasmine blooms in the early morning and by midday it is gone. The printers here have been capturing it in cloth for centuries.
The jasmine jaal is a softer pattern than most. Where other jaal designs fill every inch of ground with density and intent, this one breathes. The vines travel loosely across the fabric, the star-shaped flowers sitting wide apart from one another, the leaves turning at gentle angles as if moved by a breeze. It is a pattern that does not demand your attention. It earns it gradually, the more you look the more you see.
The peach ground is the gentlest colour in the Bagru and Sanganer palette, achieved by building up colour in a light wash over undyed cotton rather than a deep dye bath. The sage of the leaves and the soft white of the jasmine flowers are printed separately, each block adding its layer in sequence. The faint pink outlines that trace the petals are the last pass, the finest block, pressed with the lightest hand.
Once printed, the cotton is hand-quilted along vertical channels for a soft padded weight, then bound with a hand-woven tan and white stripe trim. A self-fabric tassel finishes the zip, weighted with our small metal tiger.
Some bags announce themselves. This one waits to be noticed. It will be the one people ask about.

A note on natural variation

Every Jasmine Jaal bag is printed and stitched by hand, so no two are quite the same. The peach ground is one of the more sensitive colours in the range and may carry a slightly warmer or cooler tone from piece to piece. You may notice a flower a little lighter where the block lifted early, or a vine that shifts fractionally from its neighbour. The delicacy of this pattern means the variation is subtle, but it is there if you look. It is the printer's hand, preserved in every piece.

Our Promise

Every piece in our collection is sourced directly from artisan workshops we know by name.
